Lawfare Daily: What the ‘Kids’ Think of NATO with Rachel Rizzo

Rachel Rizzo, a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, joins Lawfare Managing Editor Tyler McBrien to talk about last month’s NATO Youth Summit. Building off of her chapter “NATO, Public Opinion, and the Next Generation: Remaining Relevant, Remaining Strong,” in the 2021 book, “NATO 2030: Towards a New Strategic Concept and Beyond,” Rizzo discusses what NATO thinks of Gen Z and Millennials, the many efforts the Alliance is making to pitch to them its relevance and purpose, and the ways in which NATO could better integrate youth voices into discussions about the Alliance’s future. She also explains how and why Gen Z and Millennial views on NATO, foreign policy, and America’s changing role in the world differ from older generations. And yes, they even discuss Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo.

A Man of Many Convictions

One last week of trial brings a final Talking Feds episode with a roundtable of great reporters who were among the few in the courtroom, Jon Alter, Maggie Haberman, and Hugo Lowell. We break down the dramatic differences b/t the trial as reported in the media and as it actually was, zeroing in on the chief reasons for the DA’s decisive victory and focusing in turn on the lawyers, the judge, and the jury. We then take up Trump’s crazed response and consider what it portends for the next 5 months.

Was This The Moment That Decided The 2024 Election?

Former President Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records. However, he maintains that the trial was ‘rigged’ against him and vows to remain in the presidential race. While it’s too early to tell the polling impact of the convictions, there is some anecdotal evidence that some voters have been energized by the decision. Meanwhile, President Biden is looking to roll out executive action to address the border crisis on Tuesday. For a conversation on this and more, FOX News Chief Washington Correspondent Mike Emanuel is joined by Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

China just wrapped up nearly two weeks of its annual “Golden Dragon” military drills with Cambodia, complete with two thousand troops, fourteen ships… and robot dogs armed with machine guns. While the latter may sound scary, the technology isn’t new or unique to China. Just last year, the U.S. Marine Corps tested a rocket launcher on the back of a so-called robot goat. However, as China develops more advanced military technology, American leaders are concerned about the future of warfare. National security expert and Vice President of Defense at the Lexington Institute, Dr. Rebecca Grant joins to discuss how the robots work, China’s history of stealing American tech, and how the dogs can be used on the front lines.

Plus, commentary by former Senator Scott Brown (R-MA).

Georgia’s parliament speaker signs divisive foreign influence bill into law

A demonstrator argues with police officers during a protest against the foreign influence bill at the Parliamentary building in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. The Georgian parliament has overridden a presidential veto of the "foreign agents" legislation that has fueled Western concerns and sparked massive protests for weeks.

Opponents have denounced the legislation as “the Russian law” because it resembles measures pushed through by the Kremlin to crack down on independent news media, nonprofits and activists.
