Playing Politics At The Border? Sen. Thune Says GOP Wants “A Real Solution”

The bipartisan border bill negotiated by Senator Lankford of Oklahoma will come to a vote in the Senate today, but Lankford himself will be voting against the bill. Many Republicans are now opposing the bill, after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made changes to the legislation that the GOP heavily opposes, arguing it doesn’t address the real problem of illegal immigration. Senator Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) joins the Rundown to discuss his opposition to the bill, what President Biden can do to stop the border crisis, and what he envisions for future negotiations on immigration.

Transgender women competing in sports has been a hot topic for a while now, with New York’s Nassau County Supreme Court striking down an executive order banning trans athletes from competing earlier this month. Former NCAA swimmer and Outkick podcast host Riley Gaines continues to advocate for women’s sports. She joins to discuss Caitlin Clark’s impact on women’s basketball, why she never saw herself in this position, and her new book, “Swimming Against the Current: Fighting for Common Sense in a World That’s Lost its Mind.”

Plus, commentary from FOX News Contributor Tammy Bruce.

For today’s episode, Lawfare Senior Editor Scott R. Anderson sat down with Chimène Keitner, a Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law and former Counselor on International Law at the U.S. Department of State, to discuss the recent applications for arrest warrants filed by the prosector for the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing several senior Hamas leaders as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant of crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza. They discussed the nature of the allegations, how the ICC has come to exercise jurisdiction over the Gaza conflict, and what impact this recent action may have on the broader conflict.

Defeating Democracy, Searching For Fascism

In the United States and in capitals across the world, liberal democracy is under pressure. We are told that fascism is on the rise. Commentators rummage through the past on the hunt for analogies to explain our current predicament. How does democracy die? What does creeping fascism really look like? Maybe there are solid analogies to examine, if only to confirm that rising fascism is not a real problem today — or is it? In this episode, political scientist Andreas Umland discusses the crushing of democratic experiments in Weimar Germany and post-Soviet Russia, and the triumph of fascism in the former.
